The bridge between molecular diagnosis and allergen immunotherapy: the basis of targeted and effective therapy
In recent years, component-resolved diagnostics has opened up a new perspective in precision allergy therapy, contributing to targeted patient selection and optimizing clinical efficiency. Beyond the simple detection of sensitization, this approach allows for a detailed understanding of the individual immune response and a clear distinction between primary sensitizations and cross-reactivities. Analysis of the immunoglobulin E profile at the molecular level supports the application of personalized treatment, adapted to clinically relevant sensitizations. Among the benefits of this diagnostic approach are the increased accuracy in allergen identification, the improved risk stratification for severe reactions and more efficient use of medical resources – key aspects in a health system oriented towards performance and sustainability. In addition, molecular diagnostics is becoming a strategic tool for guiding the entire therapeutic path of the allergic patient. Given that allergen immunotherapy is the only therapy capable of modifying the natural course of allergic disease, its success depends crucially on the correct identification of the causative allergen. This article aims to highlight the essential role of molecular diagnostics in the selection, personalization and monitoring of allergen immunotherapy, emphasizing its impact on the quality of medical care and clinical outcomes.
