Approaches and technologies for assessing motorcycle comfort: a health-related analyses
With the increasing popularity of motorcycles for transportation and leisure, understanding factors affecting driver comfort is crucial. This study aims to identify the most commonly employed measurements in the literature for assessing comfort experienced by motorcyclists. Following PRISMA guidelines, four electronic databases were systematically searched (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect) from 2014 to 2024. After screening, 16 articles met the criteria and were included. In this systematic review, the methods identified were classified into objective assessment methods (electromyography, vibrational analysis, vertical accelerations, and thermal evaluation) and observational or subjective assessment techniques (self-reports and questionnaires. In some studies, individual, motorcycle, or road characteristics are also analyzed. By applying these methods, motorcycle designers and engineers may be able to improve motorcycles in an attempt that maximizes rider comfort.
