Interrogation Federal Character Policy and Employee Performance: A study of Federal Road Safety Commission Nigeria: The Nexus
The study investigates Federal Character Policy and Employee Performance:in Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).Qualitative approach was adopted and secondary sources of data were the major sources of data adopted. The generated data were analyzed and thematically presented using content analysis as analytical tool. The study revealed that federal character policy was introduced in Nigeria in order to avoid domination, maginalisation and injustice in the appointment, recruitment and transfer of personnel in the federal civil and public service. However, the fear of one region or ethnic group dominating the other has not been dealt with as patronage system has taking the place of meritocracy and federal character policy. Sequel to this, people employed in the federal institutions under patronage system shift their allegiance to the man who gave the job rather than the institution they are serving, hence their performance in the organisation will fall below expectation. Consequently, the study recommends that adequate measures should be taken in order not to sacrifice merit in the alterof mediocrity
