Cistatina C en la disfunción renal e identificación de factores de riesgo en personas de 45 a 49 años

Cystatin C has established itself as a sensitive marker for the early detection of renal dysfunction, even before significant alterations occur in other traditional parameters. This study aimed to analyze the efficacy of cystatin C in renal dysfunction and identify risk factors. An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 50 patients. The results showed that the most common risk factors were overweight/obesity, high blood pressure, and regular use of painkillers. Regarding cystatin C levels, 47 patients (94%) had normal values, while 3 (6%) had high levels, suggesting possible early kidney problems. One case presented with severe renal function impairment and two showed moderate renal damage. Although no conclusive statistical significance was found between family history and kidney disease (p = 0.059), a trend was evident that suggests the need for further research. In conclusion, cystatin C proves to be a useful biomarker for the early detection of kidney damage in young adults, especially in the presence of risk factors such as obesity, hypertension, and analgesic use, reinforcing its clinical value as a preventive tool.
