A Study on Korean Cultural Education Methods Utilizing the Local Culture of Yeongdo
This study proposes an educational approach for Korean language and cultural instruction tailored to academic-purpose foreign learners by utilizing the local culture of Yeongdo, Busan. As interest in integrating regional culture into Korean language education has grown, various studies have been conducted in different directions.Accordingly, this paper seeks to present a practical Korean cultural education plan based on Yeongdo's rich cultural elements and historical value. For this purpose, the study suggests a step-by-step educational curriculum incorporating the legend of Grandma Bongnae Mountain in Yeongdo. In the 'Understanding Local Culture' phase, learners are provided opportunities to study the folklore of the region, gain insights into its historical and cultural aspects, and deepen their comprehension of the Korean language and culture. The next phase, 'Exploring Local Culture', involves on-site visits and comparative heritage activities, enabling students to experience and investigate the region's cultural heritage directly. Finally, in the 'Expanding Local Culture' phase, learners engage in activities that assess and reflect upon their cultural understanding, while also broadening their participation in local cultural practices.Through this process, foreign learners residing in Yeongdo can actively experience and participate in preserving cultural heritage as part of their daily lives, allowing them to internalize its value more profoundly. This study holds research significance in exploring the potential of incorporating local culture into Korean language education and proposing a model for sitebased learning and cultural heritage-centered regional education. However, the effectiveness of the proposed step-by-step curriculum has not yet been fully validated in actual educational settings, necessitating further research on its applicability and impact.
