Correlation between Intrinsic and Extrinsic Work Values, Self- Efficacy and Employment Intention

This study aimed to analyze the correlation between intrinsic and extrinsic work values, selfefficacy, and employment intention among university students and to draw implications for their career development and job preparation. To achieve the purpose of this study, an empirical analysis was conducted using a self-written questionnaire administered to college students at Hanseo University.First, among intrinsic and extrinsic work values, the intrinsic work values of "self-competence" showed a significant correlation with self-efficacy (confidence). In contrast, all intrinsic and extrinsic work values (relationship-oriented, self-competence, social contribution, the pursuit of stability, social recognition, and economic priority) were found to influence self-efficacy (self-regulation).Second, self-efficacy showed a significant correlation with employment intention (employment planning), confirming that higher self-efficacy is associated with higher employment intention (employment planning). On the other hand, self-efficacy (confidence) was found to have a significant correlation with employment intention (i.e., the effort put into employment).Third, intrinsic work values (self-competence, social contribution) and extrinsic work values (pursuit of stability, social recognition, and economic priority) showed a significant correlation with employment intention (employment planning). In contrast, only the intrinsic work values (relationship-oriented, self-competence) were found to have a significant influence on employment intention (employment effort).Overall, this study suggests that an educational approach that considers the organic linkage between intrinsic and extrinsic work values and self-efficacy would be effective in enhancing students' employment intentions, and it may serve as foundational data for the design of future career education programs and policy development.
