An Analysis of the Predicament and Implications of the Contemporary Human Spiritual Home under Marx’s Thought of Alienation of Spiritual Production
In contemporary society where material production is highly developed, we have created abundant material wealth, and the supply of various spiritual and cultural products has also become increasingly rich. However, along with this superficially prosperous scene, a growing spiritual predicament has emerged. This predicament stems from the alienation of spiritual production. Under the dominance of capital logic, the alienation of spiritual production is mainly manifested in three interrelated characteristics: commercialization, instrumentalization, and homogenization. The consequence is that spiritual products may fail to carry profound life meanings, suppress critical thinking and deep participation, and ultimately intensify people’s spiritual anxiety, eroding the foundation for individuals and collectives to build a fulfilling spiritual home. In the face of the erosion of the foundation of the contemporary spiritual home, we must reflect on and limit the dominant position of capital logic in the spiritual domain, and actively promote the return of spiritual production to its essence of serving the free and all-round development of people and meeting their genuine spiritual needs. First, we should safeguard the autonomy and diversity of the foundation of spiritual and cultural production. Second, we should stimulate the subjective creativity of the people in the construction of the spiritual home. Third, under the guidance of Marxism, we should cultivate and practice a shared value system.
