New drug: fezolinetant for hot flushes
Fezolinetant, a neurokinin-3 receptor antagonist, is a new drug for vasomotor symptoms or hot flushes in menopausal women. Over a period of 12 weeks, it reduces the number of hot flushes by an average of 2 to 3 a day, compared to placebo, and reduces the severity of the hot flushes by about 15%. Fezolinetant is well tolerated, but it is important to monitor liver function, and it remains unclear whether it increases the risk of neoplasms.
