Entanglement swapping with two co-trapped 40Ca+ ions for quantum repeater application

We demonstrate Hong-Ou-Mandel interference of 854-nm photons emitted by and entangled with two co-trapped 40 Ca + ions, excited by nanosecond 393-nm laser pulses. We present evidence for atom-atom entanglement following a photonic Bell state measurement.

Abstract

We demonstrate Hong-Ou-Mandel interference of 854-nm photons emitted by and entangled with two co-trapped 40 Ca + ions, excited by nanosecond 393-nm laser pulses. We present evidence for atom-atom entanglement following a photonic Bell state measurement.
