Near Side Crash Neck Injury, Crash Test and Accident data comparison
Near side crashes make up high mortality and serious injury rates. Side airbags protect vehicle occupants in near side crashes. In previous reports, the author analyzed the effect of side airbags and found that the effect of the torso protection side air bag is less than the roll over curtain air bag, and the brain stem injury is most frequent injury among head/neck injuries. Neck injury is not measured in most consumer information crash tests. IIHS measured neck value in their tests and provided the result. This report compared IIHS results and neck injuries in NASS CDS.
