A Robust Voltage Regulator for Charging Electric Vehicles
This paper describes the design, optimization, and implementation of a Buck Converter intended to enhance power transfer efficiency in PV systems for electric vehicle charging applications. It is a device with a capability to step down high DC voltage directly from its PV sources into accurate voltage and power requirements of EV batteries, safely and efficiently providing the energy required for charging. The system is designed to provide a stable and regulated output voltage under different conditions due to variations in input voltage, reference voltage changes, or even due to changes in environmental conditions like temperature and irradiance. In this case-the system can be said to deliver accurate voltage in both scenarios: One, where reference is constant with respect to varying supply, and the other when both supply and reference vary, hence meaning accurate supply delivery is achieved. A proportional, integral, and derivative (PID) controller is designed with the State Feedback of this system, which improves the precision of the control and the dynamic response, leading to better voltage regulation and general performance of the system. MATLAB Simulink was employed in the design and simulation of this unique system, which would then validate the fact that the power means are being maintained despite the fluctuating inputs. Feedback control also maximized the energy efficiency and stability of the system. Most simulations results show that there are low energy loss levels and very reliable power supplies, and the outputs can perform efficiently with renewable energy systems.
