Enhanced Object Detection System for Autonomous Driving

This research addresses significant challenges within the domain of autonomous driving technology, with a focus on enhancing the accuracy and velocity of object detection algorithms. We introduce the MCS-YOLO algorithm, which augments the integration of cross-channel and spatial coordinate data within feature maps by incorporating a coordinate attention module into the backbone architecture. Moreover, the Swin Transformer framework is assimilated into convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to emphasize the importance of contextual spatial data, and a multiscale detection framework for small objects is devised to augment sensitivity towards densely populated small items. Following extensive evaluation on the BDD100K autonomous driving dataset, the MCS-YOLO algorithm demonstrates superior performance compared to its YOLOv5s equivalent in terms of mean average precision and recall metrics. In practical driving scenarios, our algorithm achieves an impressive real-time detection rate of 55 frames per second. Encouraging findings from supplementary research employing YoloV5x6 indicate that mean average precision may be enhanced to 0.798S. This study makes a significant contribution to the progressive evolution of intelligent transportation systems by offering a dependable and efficient approach to fortifying the object detection capabilities inherent in autonomous driving.
