A Latency Score based Benchmarking Framework integrating Quantum Computing in Edge-Cloud Environments
Quantum computing represents a major advancement in computing technology, leveraging quantum mechanics to process information beyond classical computers’ capability. This development is particularly significant for edgecloud deployments to promote low-latency data processing and secure communication. The integration of quantum processor units (QPU) within the edge-cloud environments promises substantial improvements in performance across various use cases. However, the successful adoption of quantum technologies requires rigorous benchmarking to ensure that they meet the specific performance requirements of edge-cloud applications. This paper introduces a novel quantum computing benchmarking framework specifically examining execution efficiency, processing delays, and communication latencies across diverse quantum edge-cloud environments. To validate this framework, several well-known quantum algorithms are benchmarked using both quantum simulators and QPU available on IBM and Amazon platforms. This research aims to provide valuable insights into the current and prospective impacts of integrating QPU and edgecloud networks, evaluating their potential to enhance overall performance.
