Integration of Ship-to-Grid Technology in Maritime Transport: A Case Study of the Island of Brač
The transition to renewable energy sources presents challenges for grid stability, necessitating innovative storage solutions. One such emerging solution is Ship-to-Grid (S2G) technology, where electric ships function as energy reservoirs for grid balancing. This paper explores the feasibility of implementing S2G technology in the maritime transport sector, focusing on ferry operations on the island of Brač, Croatia. The study provides a techno-economic analysis comparing conventional diesel-powered ferries, fully electric ferries, and S2G-equipped electric ferries. The results indicate that integrating S2G technology can contribute to energy stability and carbon footprint reduction while offering economic benefits.
