Assessment of an adaptive control system for heating systems in multi-family buildings

An appropriate strategy for controlling heating systems in buildings can increase their energy efficiency and thus reduce heat consumption for space heating as well as carbon dioxide emissions. This paper analysed and compared the impact of using an adaptive control system on the heat consumption in existing multi-family buildings on the basis of field studies. A group of ten buildings of similar construction and size, with the same technical solution of the heating installation, was considered. The assessment of the proposed modernisation measure was carried out for nine heating seasons on the basis of corrected heat consumptions for heating, i.e. related to the standard heating season. The energy savings due to the additional control system was determined, which in the considered group of buildings amounted to an average of 5.61%.
