THE HISTORY OF CREATION AND OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE OF GAS GENERATOR CARS IN OUR COUNTRY

The article presents a brief history of the creation of gas-powered cars in the USSR and their operational features, especially during the war period. The development of gas-powered cars in the USSR, unlike the rest of the world, has its own peculiarities, since in the USSR the reserves of charcoal used for them as fuel were inexhaustible. And unlike the rest of the world, the USSR did not particularly strive to create and distribute passenger cars powered by alternative fuels, although there were such. At that time, trucks were considered the main engine of the economy in the USSR, which performed their functions of transporting necessary goods, and the use of a gas generator set in such vehicles at the same time made it possible to solve the issues of saving liquid petroleum fuel. This was especially true during the war, when oil fuel supplies were limited, and, in addition, it was difficult to transport fuel to military units. During this period, all oil fuel reserves were spent mainly on airplanes, cars, and tanks, which were at the forefront, and gas-powered vehicles were mainly used in the rear for cargo transportation. Moreover, any wood materials could be used as "fuel" for such cars, primarily pine chocks, various birch, ash, beech and oak firewood were actively used. Compressed braces made of cones, sawdust, straw, peat, etc. were used. This made it possible to save oil fuel during the most difficult years of the war for our country and send it to the needs of the front.
