Substantive and methodological foundations of simulator training of watch officers when used instead of part of on board training

The relevance of the study is due to the need to ensure personnel safety in the shipping industry through proper training of marine specialists. The object of the study is personnel safety in the shipping industry. The subject of the study is on board training of watch officers. The purpose of the study is to analyze the possibility of using such a tool for setting tasks for trainees on board as the On Board Training Record Book (OTRB) for the development of simulator training programs counted towards on board training – simulator equivalent training – as well as to identify the differences (features) in the formation of simulator equivalent training programs and traditional simulator training. The methodological basis of the study is a comparison of on board training and simulator training, abstraction, consisting in distraction from those elements of on board training that are not related to work on the navigation bridge and cannot be implemented in the process of simulator training, as well as analysis and synthesis. The novelty of the study lies in the substantiation of the basis of simulator equivalent training, which is proposed to use a set of tasks included in the OTRB, as well as in proposals for the formation of the simulator equivalent training program. As a result of the study, it was revealed that not all elements of the on board training program can be implemented in the process of simulator training. However, the content of the program of such training should be in accordance with the content of the OTRB as much as possible. Based on the analysis of the features of the formation of simulator equivalent training programs, distinguishing it from classical simulator training, general methodological rules for creating scenarios – a fundamental part of simulator equivalent training programs are formulated.
