Exploring Prompting Techniques for Chinese Language Education : Focusing on Hierarchical Prompting

This study looked through effective prompting techniques for Chinese language education using Large Language Models. Since ChatGPT’s emergence in 2022, LLMs have developed rapidly, with educational models enhancing its education capabilities. Effective application requires prompting strategies that consider Chinese language’s unique characteristics. Through literature review and case analysis, this research examines the development of prompt engineering and explores prompt techniques suitable for Chinese language education. The findings indicate that reasoning techniques align with Chinese language’s progressive learning structure. Structured frameworks provide systematic prompt design approaches. Hierarchical prompting suits graduated difficulty levels, and specialized techniques enhance instructional clarity. Specifically, least-to-most prompting is effective for pronunciation and vocabulary learning, role prompting for conversation practice, and chain-of-verification prompting for writing instruction.
