Comparative Impact of Bobath and Vojta Therapy on Motor Function and Muscle Tone in Children with Cerebral Palsy

Background: People with cerebral palsy (CP) have a group of neuromotor abnormalities that make it difficult forthem to move, balance, and maintain proper posture. These issues have been addressed by using the Bobath and Vojtaapproaches. However, to direct clinical practices, empirical data demonstrating these medicines’ efficacy is required. Objective: In children with cerebral palsy (CP), the study aimed to show the evidence-based benefits of Bobath andVojta procedures on motor function and muscle tone. Methods: A four-month randomized clinical trial was conductedat Saad Hospital Daska and Special Hakeem-ul-umat School Sialkot. 24 kids between the ages of 1 and 6 were split upinto two groups, A and B, using the convenience sample method (12 in each group). For a month, Group A receivedBobath therapy whereas Group B received Vojta therapy five days a week. The Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM)used for motor function and Ashworth Scale were used for muscle tone assessment. Permissions were obtained fromthe relevant departments and hospitals, and data were collected using GMFM Score sheet. IBM SPSS version 20 wasused for statistical analysis. Results: The Bobath group showed a significant improvement in GMFM scores (30.40 to38.73) and Ashworth Scale scores (2.92 to 0.92), demonstrating the enhanced motor function and muscle tone. The Vojtagroup also showed improvement in GMFM scores (29.98 to 34.52) and Ashworth Scale scores (2.75 to 1.50). However, there were no significant differences related to gender, GMFCS level, CP type, or socioeconomic status. Conclusion:Both Bobath and Vojta techniques are contributing in improving motor function and muscle tone in children affectedwith CP, with the Bobath technique showing slightly more significant improvements. Patient characteristics did notsignificantly influence therapy outcomes.
