Fraud Detection of Online transaction Using Machine Learning

In the contemporary digital economy, the proliferation of online payment systems has significantly transformed the landscape of financial transactions. However, this evolution has concurrently escalated the incidence of fraudulent activities, posing substantial risks to financial institutions and consumers alike. This study presents a comprehensive approach to fraud detection in online transactions utilizing advanced machine learning algorithms. Emphasizing the efficacy of both supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, the research delineates the application of algorithms such as Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machines (SVM), Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, K-means Clustering, Isolation Forest, and Local Outlier Factor (LOF). The study rigorously evaluates these algorithms on a highly imbalanced data-set, reflecting real-world scenarios, to ascertain their performance in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. Notably, unsupervised learning methods demonstrate significant potential in identifying anomalous transaction patterns without relying on labeled data, thereby enhancing the robustness of fraud detection systems. The findings underscore the critical role of machine learning in fortifying cybersecurity frameworks and provide a blueprint for implementing scalable, efficient, and adaptive fraud detection mechanisms in online financial ecosystems.
