IoT-Driven Smart Parking with LoRaWAN and Magnetic Sensors for Advanced Vehicle Detection

One of the biggest problems in today's modern, congested cities is parking due to the rapid growth of urbanization. Due to increase in the population, usage of vehicles is also increased which results in too many cars on the road and not enough places to park them. Effective and intelligent parking management systems are now necessary as a result of this hectic situation. Hence in this research, the application of an IOT-based parking management system is demonstrated with the help of LoRaWAN and PNI PlacePod magnetic sensors. The main idea of the article is to place a PNI Place Pod magnetic sensor in the parking areas that detects the occupancy of that area and then this information will be sent to the cloud via Things Mate application to provide the live data. In this proposed work, LoRaWAN is preferred because of its low power consumption with higher range of communication and also to ensure the seamless data transfer among the sensors and to the connected servers. By integrating the LoRaWAN and the PNI PlacePod sensors, the presence of vehicle is effectively detected and communicated to the user via the app with higher precision. Overall, this system helps to reduce the time and effort required to find available parking spots, which can save drivers time and reduce fuel consumption, reduce traffic congestion by directing drivers to available parking spots, and also to optimize the parking space utilization. This proposed research also provides the contribution for the smart city developments by suggesting the robust and cost effective IoT driven parking solutions.
