Linear Systems Reduction using Differentiation and Mihailov Stability Criterion

This study discusses model order reduction approaches for complex systems in order to facilitate analysis and realization. The techniques are combined in a way that allows for simple computation and stable reduced systems if higher order systems are stable. Though the systems’ properties in terms of input-output behavior remain unchanged. The strategies employed are based on Mihailov’s Stability Criterion. This method eliminates the necessity to compute the initial time moments and Markov parameters of the original system. The numerator coefficient of the original system is decreased by the differentiation approach. Several comparisons between the proposed technique and existing techniques have been made. The results suggest that the proposed technique is more effective for systems that demand less overshoot for greater stability and equivalent peak time. Certain systems, however, require faster settling and rising times, which cannot be met using the shown technique. Several examples have been provided to exemplify the suggested technique for systems of varying order.
