Comparison of Inter-Leaved Boost Converter with Sliding Mode Controller for EV Applications

Electric Vehicles (EVs) require highly efficient and reliable power conversion systems to optimize performance, enhance energy utilization, and extend battery life. The interleaved boost converter, combined with a sliding mode controller (SMC), offers superior advantages over conventional boost converters by significantly reducing current ripple, enhancing power density, and improving overall thermal efficiency. The interleaved topology distributes the current across multiple phases, minimizing inductor stress, lowering switching losses, and improving the dynamic response, making it ideal for high-power applications. Meanwhile, the SMC ensures robust and adaptive control by dynamically adjusting the system’s behavior, leading to a fast transient response, minimal steady-state error, and enhanced stability under varying load and input conditions. With its ability to handle nonlinearity, external disturbances, and uncertainties more effectively than traditional controllers, this combination provides a highly efficient, stable, and reliable solution for EV power management, ensuring optimal performance in real-world applications.
