O grunge e a moda, uma brevíssima introdução

This essay draws on the sociology of youth and cultural studies to analyze marginal forms of clothing expression, in particular the grunge style. Born out of the tensions and values of youth in the 1980s and 1990s, this Seattle-based style had a contest dimension. The analysis traces its recovery by the fashion industry, its gradual codification and the transformation of its ideological meanings. By studying this aestheticization, the essay sheds light on the mechanisms of cultural transformation, symbolic reconfiguration and circulation of clothing styles in the social space, revealing the social issues linked to fashion and youth culture.
