El primer intento de representar a san Agustín en el cine: ‘Agostino d’Ippona’ de Roberto Rossellini
This paper aims to analyze Roberto Rossellini’s Agostino d’Ippona (1972). The film, the first feature-length auteur film dedicated to the Bishop of Hippo, goes beyond a simple biographical reconstruction by offering a critical interpretation of his life and thought. Through an integral analysis of the work, supported by using the script, the study explores the directorial and narrative choices that shape the representation of Augustine. It will understand Rossellini’s communicative intention and explore how he updated his character, adapting him to the anxieties of his time and proposing him as a model of transformation and renewal.
