SCREENING FOR ADENOVIRUS AND ROTAVIRUS IN CHILDREN AGED 2 TO 59 MONTHS WITH DIARRHEA IN HEALTH STRUCTURES IN THE TOWN OF BUNIA
Abstract: Introduction: This research aimes to detect Adenovirus and Rotavirus infection in children aged 2 to 59 months in health facilities in the city of Bunia. Methods: An analytical study was conducted using the cross-sectional method, extending from July 25 to August 24, 2023 which defines the time of the survey. The study included all children aged 2 to 59 months with acute diarrhea in health facilities in the city of Bunia. The selection of health facilities to be included in the sample was carried out by combining simple random sampling based on probability with non-probability sampling of the occasional type. Results: Following data review and processing, an overall prevalence of 12.8% for rotavirus infections and 4.7% for Adenoviruses was found. Conclusion: Despite vaccination campaigns, gastroenteritis remains a significant public health problem. It is crucial to improve access, raise parental awareness, and monitor rotavirus vaccination coverage, particularly in peri-urban and rural areas. Establishing an active monitoring system for viral gastroenteritis in children would make it possible to track the progression of rotavirus and adenovirus infections, quickly identify outbreaks, and assess the effectiveness of vaccination programs.
