RePo-SUDOE - Promoting drug repurposing in the SUDOE region through Public Health engagement and scientific literacy

Drug repurposing represents a promising strategy to expedite the development of new therapeutic uses for existing compounds, offering a more efficient, cost-effective, and safer alternative to traditional drug development pipelines. This approach is particularly relevant for addressing unmet health needs in ageing populations and underserved communities. The RePo-SUDOE project aims to establish the Southwest Europe (SUDOE) region as a leader in this field by fostering a transnational research and innovation network, with a primary focus on oncology.
The project will develop an open-access database of therapeutic targets and compounds and introduce a 3D visualisation prototype to facilitate the exploration of drug–target interactions. These integrated resources are designed to support preclinical research, accelerate the identification of new indications, and build capacity among early-career researchers in the region.
The Portuguese Society of Public Health (SPSP) contributes its expertise to ensure the accessibility, visibility, and impact of RePo-SUDOE’s results. SPSP leads a multi-layered dissemination and knowledge translation strategy targeting diverse audiences — including students, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public. Through workshops, summer schools, educational content, and policy briefs, SPSP promotes scientific literacy and supports the integration of drug repurposing approaches into health systems across the SUDOE region.
This poster presents the SPSP-led dissemination framework and tools designed to enhance accountability, promote equity, and support the uptake of repurposed therapies, showing how evidence-based innovation can reshape health systems across borders.
