Benefits of piano music for alleviating symptoms of mild depression among students: A preliminary study
The study investigates the impact of daily 30-minute sessions of live piano music listening over 4 weeks, aimed at improving the mental state of students with mild depression, specifically in reducing the intensity of depressive symptoms. The study was conducted among 256 students from Northwest Normal University in China. The experimental method with a control group (waiting group) was employed. As a result of the intervention at the end of the study, a statistically significant difference in the level of depression between the experimental and control groups was observed. This study provides new insights that may be beneficial for educational administrators in understanding the prevalence of depression among students, its negative impact, and one of the potential avenues that could contribute to alleviating the students' condition.
