Studi Numerik Kavitasi dan Performance dari Propeller DTMB 4119 dengan Metode Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD)

The propeller with its working principle is to convert rotational power into thrust in a fluid such as water or air. The propeller leaf functions like a wing, generating a force based on Bernoulli's principle and Newton's laws of motion, which creates a pressure difference between the front and rear surfaces. This pressure difference causes cavitation, which is the formation of gas bubbles on the propeller leaf. Cavitation can damage the propeller leaf material and reduce efficiency, resulting in reduced thrust. This study analyzes the effect of cavitation on the performance of DTMB 4119 propeller using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) based software. The results show that the thrust coefficient and torque coefficient increase, but the efficiency of both propellers and their variations decrease as cavitation increases.
