(Des)figuraciones del sujeto

This paper demonstrates how a part of current speculative fiction presents the cyborg motif as a monstruous (dis)figuration of the subject that points to a set of profound questions, such as the neocolonial extractivism, the lived traumas, or the importance of showing the issues that historically marginalized groups face, among others. To accomplish this goal, the paper analyses the representation of the cyborg in the recent narrative of the Bolivian American author Edmundo Paz Soldán from the theoretical perspectives of authors such as Brown, Carroll, Haraway, Moraña or Yehya, among others. The pazsoldanian narrative employs the cyborg to problematize the sociohistorical and epistemological legacy of anthropocentric humanism and to revalue the peripheral spaces and social subjects. Thus, it is a figure that enables a reprobation of the status quo and its reconfiguration under a post-human and post-anthropocentric light. From this approach, it reflects critically the culture from which it emerges, inciting an active response to the injustices of the present.
