Penguasaan Pengetahuan Isi Kandungan Jawi: Satu Kajian Awal (Mastery of Jawi Content: A Preliminary Study)
A deep understanding of the content of the Jawi subject is crucial for teachers to plan and implement effective and engaging teaching. Teachers with a good grasp of Jawi content and teaching methods can deliver lessons in a way that is easier for students to understand. This study aims to identify the level of mastery Content Knowledge (CK) in the Jawi subject among Jawi Education Teachers (JETs) and to explore the necessity of mastering Content Knowledge (CK) in the Jawi subject among JETs. The study employs an 'Explanatory Mixed Methods Design', combining a quantitative approach through surveys and a qualitative approach through a case study. For the quantitative research, a set of Jawi education CK questionnaires was prepared to obtain the general CK mean of Jawi education teachers. In the qualitative study, three Jawi education teachers currently teaching in primary schools were selected as study participants. Data was collected through questionnaires and in-depth interviews. SPSS 21 software was used to analyse quantitative data to obtain descriptive statistics, while thematic analysis was used to analyse qualitative data. The quantitative study results show that the construct of CK mean of Jawi education teachers is at a high level and very high level. The findings indicate that knowledge of Jawi subject content, Jawi curriculum knowledge, teacher readiness and belief in the Jawi subject are essential for mastering the content of the Jawi subject being taught. Therefore, training on the latest Jawi spelling system and Jawi teaching and learning techniques needs to be intensified by the relevant authorities.
