Заметка об одном амулете (Оберег Джамшида Нахичеванского) / A Note on an Amulet (The Talisman of Jamshid Nakhichevansky)
This article is focused on an amulet once belonged to Jamshid Jafarovich Nakhichevansky (1895–1938), the last general from the family of the Khans of Nakhichevan. This lithographically printed amulet of the late 19th–early 20th century, is an interesting textual artifact containing Quranic verses, prayers from Al-Ṣaḥīfaẗ al-Siǧādiya attributed to the forth Shi‘a Imam ‘Ali ibn Hoseyn, as well as elements of the abjad system—an Arabic alphanumeric code. The article analyzes some textual and cultural-religious specifics of the amulet. Particular attention is paid to the interpretation of the symbolic meanings of letters and numbers in the context of the Muslim folk magic.
