Abstract

The role and significance of the national school is emphasized in the system of studying the centuries-old history of Armenian culture. The role of education is emphasized especially in the preservation of national values and traditions. The article presents a number of issues related to the educational life of Artsakh, one of the regions of Eastern Armenia at the beginning of the 20th century based on materials published in the "Nor Dar" newspaper. We have also briefly touched upon the policy of Tsarism in the Caucasus, the process of closing and reopening Armenian schools in the Artsakh Diocese. The educational problems of various localities of the Artsakh Diocese were studied related to school programs, student and teacher complaints and the activities of school supervisors. According to the materials of the newspaper, new information was presented on the Diocesan and Realakan schools of Artsakh, Gandzak Gymnasium School, “St. Nune” Girls School, Gandzak Commercial School, Gandzak City School, Hadrut Girls School, carpet weaving and handicraft schools of some villages of Artsakh, as well as carpet weaving school of the village of Getashen. The circumstances hindering the development of the educational life of Artsakh (related to the Armenian-Tatar clashes of 1905-1907), the activities of individual teachers were briefly highlighted. We have also presented the charitable works of individual individuals, based on materials from the "Nor Dar" newspaper.
