Strengthening resilience and performance through business continuity management: insights from central java tour operators

Business Continuity Management (BCM) is vital for resilience and operational continuity but is underexplored in tourism. This study focuses on crisis and the impact of BCM practices on organizational resilience and performance in Indonesia’s tourism sector. Data from 140 Central Java tour operators, analyzed using SPSS and PLS-SEM, reveal that Embeddedness of Continuity Practices (ECP) significantly enhances resilience and performance, boosting stability and resource efficiency. However, gaps in management support, preparedness, and external requirements limit these benefits. Mediation analysis highlights planned and adaptive resilience as critical elements to ensure BCM significantly influence performance, particularly via ECP. The findings emphasize integrating BCM into daily operations, prioritizing proactive risk management, and addressing current gaps to build capacity. By adopting comprehensive strategies, Indonesia’s tourism sector can enhance resilience, ensuring long-term success in an unpredictable environment.
