Micrometrical study on the adrenal glands of Jaffarabadi buffalo (Bubalus bubalis): An analysis and comparison

The present study was carried out on the adrenal glands of 18 healthy, adult female Jaffarabadi buffaloes. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the micrometrical parameters of different parts of the left and right adrenal glands. The tissue samples were collected from the slaughterhouse. The samples were processed by standard procedure, stained with hematoxylin and eosin stain and perform micrometrical evaluation. The thickness of the capsule of right adrenal was higher (6.33%) as compared to the left adrenal gland. Among the different zones of the adrenal cortex, the thickness of zona glomerulosa was the lowest, while the zona fasiculata was the thickest layer, in both left and right adrenal glands. The thickness of zona glomerulosa was higher in the left adrenal (3.97%) as compared to the right adrenal. The thickness of zona fasciculata, zona reticularis and the total thickness of adrenal cortex was higher (12.04%, 9.28% and 9.43% respectively) in the right adrenal gland as compared to the left adrenal gland. The medulla was divided into two zones outer and inner. The outer medulla was thinner as compared to the inner medulla in both the left and right adrenal glands. The thickness of inner medulla was significantly higher in right (28.45%) than the left adrenal gland.
