Enhancing Software Requirements Verification and Validation Techniques

In this study, we examine the diverse methodologies used for software verification and validation (V and V) across various industries, leveraging secondary data to synthesize insights from key guidelines, standards, and frameworks. The findings indicate a preference for advanced V and V techniques such as risk-based testing, simulation, and formal methods, particularly in industries with high operational demands including IT, health care, and quantum computing. In the analysis, we highlight sector-specific adaptations of V and V practices, indicating the need for tailoring methodologies to align with unique industry challenges and requirements. We underscore the critical role of contextual relevance in the successful implementation of V and V techniques. Future research should incorporate primary data collection and explore underrepresented sectors to provide a comprehensive view of V and V practices. In addition, it should include additional variables such as organizational culture, project characteristics, and stakeholder involvement to contextualize V and V practices. Such efforts will enhance the applicability of V and V methodologies, ensuring their effectiveness across a broader spectrum of industries and operational contexts.
