Asymptotic Behavior of Evolution Equations via Spectral Theory of Functions on the Half Line, Sums of Commuting Operators and Evolution Semigroups

Abstract In this paper we give a survey of recent developments in the spectral theory of bounded functions on the half line, and its applications to study the asymptotic behavior of solutions of evolution equations of the form $$u'(t)=A(t)u(t)+f(t)$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:msup> <mml:mi>u</mml:mi> <mml:mo>′</mml:mo> </mml:msup> <mml:mrow> <mml:mo>(</mml:mo> <mml:mi>t</mml:mi> <mml:mo>)</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> <mml:mo>=</mml:mo> <mml:mi>A</mml:mi> <mml:mrow> <mml:mo>(</mml:mo> <mml:mi>t</mml:mi> <mml:mo>)</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> <mml:mi>u</mml:mi> <mml:mrow> <mml:mo>(</mml:mo> <mml:mi>t</mml:mi> <mml:mo>)</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> <mml:mo>+</mml:mo> <mml:mi>f</mml:mi> <mml:mrow> <mml:mo>(</mml:mo> <mml:mi>t</mml:mi> <mml:mo>)</mml:mo> </mml:mrow> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> , $$t\ge 0$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>t</mml:mi> <mml:mo>≥</mml:mo> <mml:mn>0</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> , where A ( t ) is periodic in t .
