Anisotropic mechanical response and aliovalent doping-induced strengthening in CaF 2 single crystals: a combined experimental and first-principles study
Significant anisotropy in the compressive strength of CaF 2 was uncovered, which can be explained by Coulomb interactions between like-charged ions under loading. Y 3+ doping enhances the mechanical strength of CaF 2 due to the strong Y–F bonds.
