EKSPERIMEN SEDERHANA DI DALAM KELAS : PERBANDINGAN KARAKTERISTIK BIOPLASTIK BERBAHAN DASAR TEPUNG KANJI, MAIZENA, DAN SAGU

Abstract. Plastic is a major contributor to environmental problems. Pollution continues to occur in the environment, and one of the causes is conventional plastic waste, which is difficult to decompose by microorganisms in the soil. Therefore, action or steps need to be taken to address this issue. This study aims to examine the potential and characteristics of bioplastics as an alternative to conventional plastics. The research method used is a simple experimental method conducted in the classroom. The bioplastics in this experiment were made using three types of flour as the main ingredients: cornstarch, sago flour, and tapioca flour. The resulting bioplastics were tested using water resistance tests, tear tests, elasticity tests, and mold resistance tests. Based on the research results, bioplastics made from sago flour showed better durability compared to those made from cornstarch and tapioca flour. In the water test, sago-based bioplastics took longer to degrade than the others. In the tear test, sago-based bioplastics demonstrated stronger resistance. In the elasticity test, folds on sago-based bioplastics did not leave any crease marks. Additionally, in the mold test, sago-based bioplastics showed resistance to mold after being exposed in an open space for 7 days. Besides sago flour, tapioca flour also showed relatively good durability, ranking just below sago. Meanwhile, cornstarch-based bioplastics exhibited the lowest durability among the three types. Keywords: Bioplastic; Conventional Plastic; Simple Experiment.
