Stereoselectivity in Cyclostereoisomerism: A Case Study with Belt-Persistent Cylindrical Molecules
Oxidative reactions of a chiral molecular segment of carbon nanotubes afforded a chiral macrocycle with multiple stereogenic units. The cylinder chirality originally described by a single descriptor of <i>P</i>/<i>M</i> stereoisomerism was transformed into complex chirality, which requires multiple descriptors to specify the absolute configurations. Consequently, the single helical chirality of the nanotube propagated to 12 sets of <i>R</i>p planar chirality, 6 sets of <i>S</i>a axial chirality, and 3 sets of <i>E</i> axial geometry.
