Laboratory Testing and Thermal Performance Study of an Improved Cookstove from Burkina Faso

Improved cookstoves (ICS) are an effective alternative to traditional cookstoves (TCS), enabling a reduction in fuel consumption and an improvement in energy efficiency. This study analyzes the performance of the Multimarmite cookstove used in Burkina Faso, applying the standardized test sequence of ISO 19867-1:2018.The aim is to assess the cookstove's energy efficiency and environmental impact through several key parameters: test duration, fuel consumption, thermal output, and emissions of carbon monoxide (CO) and fine particles (PM).The results show that this cookstove significantly reduces fuel consumption compared with traditional cookstoves, with a reduction of up to 40%, while achieving an average thermal output of 5.13 kW.CO and PM emissions are also reduced, to 2.07 g and 450.94 mg respectively, demonstrating cleaner, more efficient combustion. These results demonstrate the ability of Multimarmite cookstoves to meet household energy needs while limiting their impact on health and the environment. This study underlines the Laboratory
