Smart food logistics: design and test of an IoT-based food traceability system

This study highlights the need for better food traceability, safety, and quality control in the food supply chain through Internet of Things (IoT) technology. It details the development and testing of an IoT-based food traceability system that combines sensors for temperature, humidity, oxygen, gas levels, light, and GPS tracking. The system allows real-time environmental monitoring across ambient (25–30°C), refrigerated (2–8°C), and outdoor conditions, transmitting data via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular networks. A major contribution is the integration of multiple environmental factors into one platform, exceeding existing systems that track limited parameters. The research addresses gaps in sensor integration and shows how IoT can be practically applied to improve supply chain operations. Findings highlight IoT's potential to boost food traceability and sustainability. Future work will focus on new IoT technologies, scalability, and sensor accuracy, fostering collaboration among researchers, industry, and policymakers to enhance food logistics efficiency.
