Parenting a Child with ADHD: Evaluating the Impact of Barkley’s Parent Training Program on Parental Stress Reduction
Parenting children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) presents persistent challenges that can substantially increase parental stress and diminish family well-being. This study assessed the effectiveness of Barkley’s Parent Training Program (BPTP), a structured behavioral parent intervention, in reducing perceived stress among parents of children with ADHD. Ten parents participated in a 10-week program emphasizing behavior management skills, reinforcement strategies, and emotional regulation. Pre- and post-intervention stress levels were measured using the Parental Stress Scale (PSS). Quantitative analyses, including paired samples t-tests and ANOVA, demonstrated statistically significant reductions in parental stress. These findings underscore the critical role of evidence-based parenting interventions in mitigating caregiver strain and improving family dynamics.
