Palladium-catalyzed methoxycarbonylation of a commodity CO2-sourced δ-valerolactone
• The methoxycarbonylation of 3-ethylidene-6-vinyltetrahydro-2 H -pyran-2-one (EVP), a commodity δ-valerolactone prepared by telomerization of CO 2 with butadiene, is reported. • The py t bpx ligand (“LikatPhos”) proved instrumental to achieve successful formation of the new carbonylation product 11 . • All intermediates/compounds generated through this complex reaction have been authenticated by a combination of different analytical techniques. • The reaction proceeds via hydroesterification of an allyl ether intermediate compound, most likely via a Pd‒H species.
