SERUM LIVER MARKERS ASSOCIATED WITH FEATURES OF METABOLOC SYNDROME IN THE WORKING-AGE POPULATION

Cardiometabolic syndrome is a chronic condition characterised by the presence of at least three of the following conditions: elevated fasting glucose, central obesity, hypertension, high triglycerides, and low HDL levels, that collectively increase t he risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. This study aims to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among working-age individuals and identify related factors to inform targeted interventions.Conducted over nine months at the National Institute of Medical Assessment and Work Capacity Rehabilitation in Bucharest, the observational study involved 332 individuals with abnormal liver and lipid test results. The mean age was 53.09 years, with a male -to-female ratio of 2.46.Over half (52.11%) met the criteria for metabolic syndrome.Obesity was notably prevalent and significantly associated with dyslipidaemia (66.67%, p = 0.026) and metabolic syndrome (59.72%, p < 0.001).Elevated levels of AST (p = 0.037), GGT (p = 0.001), and triglycerides (p = 0.025) were observed in obese patients. These findings highlight the strong association between obesity and metabolic syndrome, suggesting that liver enzymes like AST and GGT may serve as valuable biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets in managing the syndrome.
