The Plight of Women Experiencing Domestic Violence in China: The Absence of Relief and Legal Blind Spots
This paper examines why women subjected to domestic violence in China do not receive effective relief, exploring whether the legal system fails to protect women beyond the influence of traditional Chinese patriarchal attitudes. By analyzing multiple typical cases of domestic violence in China, I find that effective relief is absent both during the ongoing violence and after severe violent incidents have occurred. The legal framework has blind spots throughout the entire period when women are experiencing domestic violence. Through effective legal intervention and cross-sectoral relief efforts, the plight of women facing domestic violence in China can be alleviated.
