Diagnostic analysis and treatment of porcine Mycoplasma suis

Abstract In this study, we delved into a severe outbreak of eperythrozoonosis, instigated by Mycoplasma suis , which led to the demise of 15,000 pre‐weaning piglets on a 6000‐sow farm during August–September 2023. Employing a comprehensive array of laboratory techniques, such as dissection, blood smear examination and fluorescent quantitative PCR, we discerned characteristic pathological alterations congruent with eperythrozoonosis. Positive PCR outcomes corroborated the presence of M. suis infection. Swift intervention with suitable medications successfully curbed the epidemic within 5 days. Our results underscore the significance of integrating modern molecular biology approaches and classical detection methods for the precise diagnosis and efficient management of M. suis infections in large‐scale pig farming enterprises. This study furnishes valuable perspectives for future research endeavours and practical applications in disease prevention and control strategies.
