Early experience with intracardiac echocardiography guidance for atrial leadless pacemaker implantation
Placement of the atrial leadless pacemaker (ALP) (Abbott, USA) can be challenging, with risks of dislodgement and embolization. Intraoperative thresholds are often high, and while these usually improve over time, predicting pacer performance can be challenging at the time of implantation.1 Contrast use is recommended during placement at the recommended site at the base of the left atrial appendage. However, in addition to being contraindicated in some patients, contrast injections cannot provide continuous real-time evidence of position, tissue contact, or stability.
