One-Pot Electrochemical Alkoxylation–Sulfonylation of Vinyl Ethers with Disulfonyl Hydrazides and DBU

We have developed a one-pot electrochemical protocol for alkoxylation-sulfonylation of vinyl ethers, using disulfonyl hydrazides as precursors of sulfonyl radical sources. The in situ reaction of the disulfonyl hydrazide with 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undecane-7-ene generated the corresponding sulfinic anion, which served as a soluble sulfonyl radical source. This mild protocol, requiring only 3 h of electrolysis at room temperature, was compatible with substrates bearing a variety of substituents.

Abstract

We have developed a one-pot electrochemical protocol for alkoxylation-sulfonylation of vinyl ethers, using disulfonyl hydrazides as precursors of sulfonyl radical sources. The in situ reaction of the disulfonyl hydrazide with 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undecane-7-ene generated the corresponding sulfinic anion, which served as a soluble sulfonyl radical source. This mild protocol, requiring only 3 h of electrolysis at room temperature, was compatible with substrates bearing a variety of substituents.
