Adaptive beamforming for multipath reception based on two-stage MVDR

This paper introduces an innovative multipath receiving beamformer aimed at resolving the signal cancellation phenomenon prevalent in multipath environments. The proposed algorithm is founded on the eigenspace method and is structured into a two-stage Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) beamforming approach. In the first stage, the MVDR initially employs a blocking matrix to suppress the direct signal, subsequently leveraging the signal cancellation effect to filter out the multipath signals, thereby deriving the first-stage MVDR weight vector. The second stage of MVDR projects this weight vector, after dimensionality completion, onto the signal-plus-interference subspace utilizing the eigenspace technique. The resulting optimal weight vector adeptly integrates the received multipath signals. The proposed algorithm boasts low computational complexity, rendering its requisite calculations feasible for practical engineering applications.
